Kelsey Sommer

Coloratura Soprano

Kelsey is a Coloratura Soprano with a Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance from Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Illinois.  Kelsey was fortunate to study with two former Metropolitan Opera singers, tenor Michael Best and baritone David Holloway, while studying voice at the Chicago College of Performing Arts.  At Lake Forest College she continued vocal study with soprano and intermezzi singer, Kathleen Van De Graaff.  Kelsey was a member of both the Women’s Choir and Combined Concert Choir.  She was also chosen to perform two lead roles with Target’s funded outreach program called “Opera for Kids.”  She played Bastienne in Bastien und Bastienne, as well as Little Red, in Little Red Riding Hood.  Kelsey was also the winner of the Lake Forest College 2015 Concerto Aria Competition, and was a featured soloist with their orchestra.  She is currently a soloist and cantor at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Barrington, Illinois.  She enjoys performing and has had success with the NATS and Classical Singer Competitions.  Kelsey was a first round finalist in the University Division of the national, Classical Singer Competition her freshman year and was also selected as a winner in the state of Illinois’ Undergraduate Division her junior year.  Kelsey is currently teaching and performing in the Chicago area, while also working on her voice with plans to pursue graduate study.
